There is a need for improved battery systems especially when it comes to lithium-ion batteries. Apart from general improvements in thermal and electrochemical stabilities, both stability, safety, and performance can be linked with the formation of Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) layer. Formation of thin, robust, self-healing, uniform, highly ion-conducting SEI layer is difficult to achieve and there has been quite a bit of work carried out by major battery manufacturers to improve and control the SEI layer formation.  At RoCo, we have developed electrochemically polymerizable ionic liquids that can improve the formation and robustness of the SEI layer.
